5 Things We Learned... Faryal Aslam
Faryal Aslam is the artist and creator behind Knottinger, a slow fashion and design company in Leeds, England. She uses traditional techniques to consciously create knotted jewelry and decor in gorgeous, rich colors. Her textile work is handcrafted and sustainable, made from 100% cotton and with a focus on minimal waste during the design and production phases. I’m thrilled to be working with Faryal on a large-scale woven textile installation for the upcoming 2nd location of Inhabit Hotel.
Here are 5 Things We Learned about Faryal.
What made you...you?
I believe it's the experiences I’ve been through both good and bad, that have made me the person I am today. Good experiences have given me hope and the bad have brought me back fighting and made me a stronger person in any wake of life. That said, I’m not necessarily the bravest person in a room. The experiences have made me quite sentimental too.
When are you happiest?
Being a mum of two, I am truly happiest when I’m on my own - doing things I thoroughly enjoy without any interruption. Some of which involve lots of rope, tea, and Netflix. However, I do value family time and some of the happiest memories are made with my loved ones.
Would you rather have a muse or be a muse?
I’d rather have a muse to be honest! It’s nice to look up to someone, follow them on their journey, and be inspired daily.
Who do you admire?
This is an easy one. I only admire one person and that is my husband. I admire his resilient character and ‘can do’ attitude about everything. He makes me want to get out and get things done - things I’ve never done before. He is the ultimate driving force behind my creative journey and I’m truly grateful for having him in my life.
What is important?
For me, it’s very important to see people beyond their external image. What they are truly deep within or what they are capable of no matter how they appear to be because everyone has their own beautiful story.
