5 Things We Learned... Josh Ward
I met Josh Ward and the Tala team in 2017 to chat about art x brand collaborations. They are a very creative and engaging group - an incredibly approachable team eager to do exceptional work. Founded in 2015, the brand represents, quite simply, the future of LED lighting. It leads the industry through innovative design and social impact, starting with low-energy lightbulbs. In addition to promoting sustainability across its business, Tala supports reforestation programs in the UK, US and around the world. The company believes good design should be eco-conscious, actively combatting climate change and creating a low carbon economy.
Josh met his Tala co-founders (Maxwell Wood and William Symington) while studying at Edinburgh University. He has an MA in Business and Economics and an MSc in Carbon Management. Tala is based in London and New York.
Here are 5 Things We Learned about Josh.
What made you...you?
A cacophony of blunders and blind luck probably. Seriously though, without going too deep on the nature vs nurture debate, I think a combo of family, travel and friendships have been the most formative.
When are you happiest?
I love the challenge of growing a business. Sometimes running a start-up feels like swinging between euphoria and terror on a weekly basis. Work aside, Iām happiest and feeling my best on a beach, surfing or seeing family.
Would you rather have a muse or be a muse?
Have a muse.
Who do you admire?
Olafur Eliasson, Achille Castiglioni
What is important?
I think health and well-being is the foundation. Having fun, surrounding yourself with positive and ambitious people is also key. For me, sustainability and being part of the change to a low-carbon society gives meaning to everything and feels super important.
