5 Things We Learned... Sarah McLaughlin

Sarah McLaughlin is a people person. And not in the stick-a-smile-on-your-face-be-a-pushover kind of way, but in the authentic-empathizing-I-see-you kind of way. 5 Things We Learned features creatives in all arenas, and we see Sarah as a true creative in her refreshing and holistic approach to therapy. She keeps it real and we love how her passion to help others has channeled into the opening of Havn Collective, a practice she co-founded in San Francisco. Featuring a group of psychotherapists, Havn’s mission is to demystify the process of therapy, remove the shame, and create conversations around Emotional Wellness. Sarah earned her Master's Degree in Counseling from San Francisco State University and gained clinical experience at USF, SFUSD, Seneca, and RAMS. She has pursued training in modalities that emphasize mind-body connection, including a 200hr yoga teacher training. She has additional training in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) specific to Anxiety treatment and training for Perinatal Mood Disorders and Perinatal Grief & Loss. Her mental health consultation has been featured in Mother MagSilk + Sonder, and used to inform trainings on the app Mend - your personal trainer for a broken heart

Here are 5 Things We Learned about Sarah.

What made you...you?

Family birth order (oldest child to a T!), parents who were unknowingly extremely feminist, growing up in church, a parent with mental illness, HOT summers

When are you happiest?

When I'm in the sunshine, near a body of water, with the people I love.

Would you rather have a muse or be a muse?

Being a muse - a source of inspiration - sounds lovely.

Who do you admire?

People with integrity - who do the right thing when no one is watching. People who lead a grounded life by opting out of many of our happiness pitfalls: comparing, keeping up with the Jones's, perfectionism, self-criticism.

What is important?

Inner Peace, Belonging, Love
